Whether used legally or illegally, sporadically or every day, drugs and alcohol can insidiously take over a person’s life and relationships. Change is quite difficult, even for someone truly motivated. In helping people with drug or alcohol problems, I focus on finding new ways to cope with life stresses, identifying sources of support for change, and addressing underlying issues from which the drug or alcohol use may be trying to protect the person with the problem. For family members and friends of someone with an addiction or problem, I provide help with boundary-setting and with focusing on what is in the family member’s control.”
